Chandigarh, February 12, 2020: Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik (RCS) and the Second Innings Association (SIA) felicitated Mr. Sandeep Kumar at a ‘Inspiraton of the Month’ ceremony held at Sip ’n Dine, Sector 7, Chandigarh and presented a Trophy and a Certificate to him. The meeting was also addressed by Shiv Kumar Sharma on free legal services and Mr. J P Kundra on converting plastic waste into useful products.
Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma of the UT State Legal Services Authority talked about the various free legal services provided by the Authority to persons from the economically weaker sections of society. “You can advise your maids, gardeners, drivers and other staff working with you to take the benefit of these free services,” he explained to the Rotary members as he gave details of the various schemes.
Mr. J P Kundra talked about a noble and innovative way of utilizing waste plastic. He said, “We have tied up with various schools and request the
ir students to bring the plastic waste from their homes to their school and we collect it from there. We make dustbins, biogas digesters,
and solar mobile chargers and give it to the schools who are helping in collecting waste.”
Mr. Sandeep Kumar is the Founder President of the ‘Open Eyes Foundation’, a non-governmental organization which he set up in 2016. The Foundation has been working on different issues and today poor children in schools and colleges are getting books because of it. Mr. Sandeep Kumar collects books by going door to door and then distributes those books to children who are from the underprivileged families, are willing to study but do not have enough money to buy books. “Till now, we have collected over 40,000 books and hundreds of children have benefitted from them,” he states proudly.
According to Aneesh Bhanot, President, Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik, “Mr. Sandeep Kumar is indeed a highly inspiring personality. He is a person of firm principles and a total commitment to upholding values.” Mr. R K Garg, President, SAI, added, “Mr. Sandeep Kumar has inspired all of us with his dedication. I am sure that his noble deeds will motivate others to do such wonderful deeds themselves also.”
Under ‘Inspiration of the Month’ RCS and SIA regularly felicitate persons from the tri-city who have done some inspirational, exemplary work. Through this, they hope to inspire other citizens to also start putting others before themselves, being compassionate and bringing in the true Rotary spirit of ‘Service Above Self’ in everybody. A five member Committee comprising Sneh Popli, Dr. Kuldip Singh, SS Lamba, R K Garg and Aneesh Bhanot shortlist the nominees, based on media reports, and decide on the final Awardee of each month.
