Chandigarh, July 24, 2020: A consultation meet on health issues faced by the children of Chandigarh was organized by the Child Friendly City Initiative (CFCI) and Director of Health Services (DHS), UT Administration at Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16 yesterday.
Participants were from both government and Civil Society including Dr. GS Dewan, Directorate, Health Services, Chandigarh, Dr. Sangeeta, Nodal Officer NHM, Dr. Joseph Mathew, Professor, Pediatric Pulmonology, PGIMER, Dr. Arzoo Gupta, Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychology, GMCH -32, Neil Robert, Program Officer, District State Legal Service Authority, Manjeet Kaur, Secretary, Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik, a representative from Anti Human Trafficking Unit Kamlesh – Child Line 1098, Ravinder Billa from Market Welfare Association, Manmohan Khanna, Fr. Reji Tom-Director, Don Bosco Navjeevan and others deliberated upon the key health issues of children in the lockdown period.
Dr. Joseph Mathew talked about their physical issues and suggested how the DHS can support the initiatives of CFCI.
Dr. Arzoo Gupta talked about the psychological and mental problems faced by the children especially during this period of COVID-19 pandemic and laid down its remedies also.
Neil Robert elaborated about the laws providing health facilities to children and the basic procedures to be practiced in dealing with the children who are abused.
Dr. GS Dewan was open to the idea of sup-porting NGOs in providing health facilities to children who are really in need. He assured the fullest support to CFCI which eventually helps in the all round development of children. During the discussions, key areas were also identified wherein interventions could be done. CFCI, along with its partners assured all assistance to the DHS in reaching out to children who are living in vulnerable areas.
