A goal is a milestone in the journey of life. It is like a mariner’s compass that gives you a sense of direction. It is a signboard to your chosen desti-nation. A goal adds meaning to your existence. It
helps you to fill up each day with activities that are instrumental in sustaining your growth.
It is your goals that give you tremendous energy to overcome the warmth and comfort of your bed every morning. Your goals define your personali-ty as well. They serve as the barometer of your capabilities, your self confidence and your ambi-tion to achieve.
Goals help you to design your life, rather than just living it. They give you energy and momen-tum to take your life to the next level. They are like the seeds we plant in the garden and hope to see them blossom into beautiful flowers. If we do not have goals, we will end up with weeds in the garden of our mind. They are automatic and we do not have to work for them. These weeds will suffocate every path of our life, force us to stag-nate and ultimately rot. If we want to discover the unlimited possibilities within us, we must find a goal big enough and grand enough to challenge us to push beyond our comfort zone and discover our true potential.
Your current conditions do not reflect your ulti-mate potential, but rather the size and quality of goals upon which you currently are focussing. We all must discover or create a magnificent obses-sion.
A goal must always be beyond your reach from where you are presently. It has to appear impossi-ble at that time. Only then it will give you a sense of excitement at the very thought of achieving it.
Only then will you challenge your belief systems about what you are capable of achieving . Only then will you transcend your own limits consis-tently and persistently.
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible,” said Anthony Robbins. A goal is dream in concrete. The conception of your goals is the master plan that guides all your thought.
All the man made creations we see around us were first conceptualized by someone like us. Someone then created them. And in order for that to happen, someone had to envision them with clarity.
In pursuit of our goals, we set in motion other processes that have consequences even far reach-ing than we ever intended. We are actually like a honeybee. A bee while sucking nectar from flow-ers, carries pollen on its legs, flies to the next flower and hence sets in to motion a chain of pol-lination. Likewise, a business pursues profit and in so doing creates jobs that offer people a chance for their personal growth and enhance their lives. Hence our goals touch the lives of so many other people and this cascading effect is infinite. The goals of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have enhanced the lives of the entire mankind. Such can be the potency of goals.
Goals are means to an end, not the ultimate purpose of our lives. They are a tool to concen-trate our focus and move us in a particular direc-tion. It causes us to expand and grow. Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term. It is who you become as you over-come obstacles necessary to achieve your goals that give you the deepest and most long lasting sense of fulfilment. Always nurture positive thoughts, for our thoughts become our actions. Actions translate into deeds. Deeds define our destiny.
