‘Intellectual Property Rights’ discussed online by UIAMS, Panjab University

Chandigarh, July 4, 2020: University Institute of Applied Man-agement Sciences, Panjab University organized a Webinar on “Intellectual Property Rights – Some Key Aspects for Enterprises” a significant area under dis-cussion for future business managers by Vikas Asawat, a Registered Patent & Trade Mark Attorney.

He is an alumnus of Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectu-al Property Law IIT Kharag-pur. He has consulted/ facili-tated/ filed around 300 Patents, 80 Industrial Designs, 450 Trademarks and 75 Copyrights applica-tions in the last ten years.

Asawat gave a detailed presentation with numerous practical examples of issues related to Trademarks, Copyrights and Patents etc. of various corporate brands like Pepsi, Bata, Bisleri, Starbucks and Sardarbucks, Oxyrich and Oxycool and many more.

This session was very interactive and covered all aspects related to filing of trademarks and patents also. Dr Amandeep Singh Mar-waha, Training cum Place-ment Officer and coordinator of this webinar intro-duced the speaker and high-lighted the vast experience Vikas Asawat.

Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi, Director, UIAMS and patron of the webinar in her wel-come address said that today the audience was fortunate to have a chance to lis-ten tor Vikas Asawat through a Webinar organized by Placement Cell, UIAMS.

She highlighted that Intellectual Property Rights was critical to fostering innovation in this globalised economy with the integra-tion of Liberalisation and Privatization.

This promotes creativity and leads to fair trading thereby helps in economic and social development.

The question answer session was coordinated by Dr Rachita Sambyal where the students of UIAMS interact-ed with many queries on trademark validity, problems faced while registration of trademark, do companies need to register their trade-mark while venturing to another country, Bbing a startup is it useful to be get registered in the start or can we go for cost-cutting in starting? If someone uses new trademark then can we use his old trademark? How many patents can a company have?

Prof Sanjeev Sharma appreciated the session delivered by Vikas Asawat and recalled his long associ-ation with UIAMS as an expert on Patents and Trade-marks.

Dr Amandeep Singh Mar-waha, coordinator of webi-nar proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the learned audience i.e. the stu-dents of UIAMS for deliber-ating on very relevant issues.
