Kickstart your metabolism

We fall into the trap of advertisements that promise to help you lose weight through boosting metabolism. These claim to burn your calories fast and lose weight quickly. But they claim it in a way that we fail to find the true logic behind it. It is true that a few foods and beverages can help boost your metabolism but that’s not so easy. There’s no way to miraculously boost metabolism. However, some food, fitness and daily activity modifications can help to a great extent.
Defining metabolism in simple terms, it is a set of chemical reactions in the body that keep you functioning well, including the processes that convert what you eat and drink into energy.
Metabolism is not only linked to the process of weight loss but is also responsible for growth, reproduction and elimination of waste products from the body. In addition to this, it regulates body temperature and transport of substances in and out of the cells.
Moreover, an individual’s metabolism is influenced by genetics, lifestyle, micro and macro nutrients that are consumed daily.
Try these out to give a boost to your metabolism:
• Fuel up with Cold Water- Keeping yourself hydrated helps you burn a lot of calories. Aerated drinks add up to your calorie intake, so switch over to water. The calorie burning effect may be even greater if you drink cold water as your body uses energy to heat it up to body temperature.
• Practice Workout Sessions- Aerobic exercise may not build big muscles, but it can level up your metabolism in the hours after a workout. High intensity exercises deliver a bigger, longer rise in the metabolic rate than low or moderate intensity workouts.
• Snack Smart- Eating large meals with long duration gaps in between can slow down your metabolism.
• Spice up your meals- Spicy foods kick up your metabolism and helps you burn calories easily.
• Power up with protein- Your body burns more calories digesting protein than it does eating fat and carbohydrates. This is because protein has greater thermic effect of food.
• Stop Crash Diets- Crash diets offer less than 1200 calories per day and may slow down your metabolism.
