Chandigarh, July 18, 2020: Contributing to the efforts of combating COVID-19, the Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Professor Raj Kumar handed over a Germicidal Sanitization Chamber to Omvir Singh Bishnoi, DIG and Virat, AIG, Jail, Chandigarh Police.
Dr. Ramesh Sharma who has designed and developed this cham-ber explained the safety features and functioning of the Chamber.
The Chamber can disinfect articles within a few minutes.
Omvir Singh appreciated the con-tribution of SAIF/CIL Panjab Uni-versity in the difficult time of pan-demic.
Prof. Raj Kumar informed that the CIL/SAIF headed by Prof. G R Chaudhary was one of the best ana-lytical centres in India and is now focusing to contributing to society by developing products as per the present requirements.
Prof. R. K Singla, DUI and Prof. V R Sinha, Dean Research were also present on the occasion.
The UV Radiation Chamber is designed in two versions consisting of a single cabin and double cabin. It is coated with a special reflect-ing metallic coating to enhance the efficiency of the Chamber manifold and incorporates safety features to
avoid any exposure to skin or eyes of the operator, informed Dr Shar-ma.
He added that the Chamber is developed with a capacity of 220 Litres/120 Litres.
It cannot operate if the door is open and has a radiation safe win-dow to see inside.
It can sanitize the surface of any article placed in it for a few minutes e.g. papers, files, office articles, mobile phones, keys, pens and virtu-ally any article which can fit into the Chamber.
It was shared that CIL/SAIF is developing a few more products to fight this Pandemic.
