Uncertainty And Certainty

by Deepak Chopra

Uncertainty and certainty are like playing hide ‘n’ seek. They create a see-saw of human emo-tions. Uncertainty is the adventure of life. It is the mystical element of life. It leads us into the unknown.

Uncertainty makes us step out of our comfort zone and expect the unexpected. When it suits us, we call it a miracle. If it is averse to our interest or chain of expectations, we classify the outcome as a tragedy.

In the short term it may appear as such, but in the long run, as the greater design of the Almighty unfolds and the true picture emerges, we heave a sigh of relief.

Death is certain, but its occurrence is uncer-tain.

Because of this uncertainty, we should shed anger, hatred, jealousies and resentment and embrace love, serenity and contentment (not complacency) for one never knows when it strikes and then all we can do is regret.

Imagine every human being with an expiry date. It would be a ludicrous scenario. Life would become so mechanical.

Uncertainty is the very essence of life. Without it, life will become mathematical. Monotony would set in.

Words like guess, estimate, forecast and specu-lation would become redundant. Optimism and pessimism would lose meaning.

It is uncertainty that causes the surging of emo-tions, ranging from smiles to tears. Uncertainty keeps our brain ticking, builds the resilience to face the unknown and opens before us new vistas of life. It helps us to explore ourselves and dis-cover our true self.

Life is a journey. We have to negotiate through uncertainties and circumvent certain hurdles to achieve our goals, just as we drive across smooth terrain as well as dirt tracks.

Uncertainty makes us surrender to Him. It proves that a human being has to only perform his karma and leave the rest to God.

The outcome of every uncertainty becomes a certainty. Then that becomes our present or now, and has to be dealt with accordingly.

The fear due to uncertainty arises because of lack of faith in His will.

It reflects non-acceptance of Divine interven-tion. For whatever happens, happens for the good. That is a certainty. We only misinterpret it by being judgmental.

By having complete trust in Him, the fear of uncertainty can be eradicated and acceptance of Divine’s decisions reigns supreme.

It is a state of complete bliss, without any fear or doubt.
