Vanmahotsav-2020 held in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, July 10, 2020: Vanmahotsav-2020 was launched today by planting tree saplings at the Forest Area on I.T. Park Road in association with Central Reserve Police Force, Chandigarh.

Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh in the presence of Randeep Shar-ma, Commandant, CRPF Campus and Dr. Abdul Qayum and personnel of CRPF and Forest Department, UT Chandigarh planted saplings.

Debendra Dalai also flagged off a vehicle designed for free distribution of saplings. During this year 1,50,000 saplings will be planted in a phased manner on government and available private land and 70,000 saplings are being distributed by the Forest Department free of cost to the citizens of Chandigarh.

Tree Plantation Drive commences at PU The Horticulture Division of Panjab University today organized a tree plantation at a ground in front of E1-30 to 34, Sector-14, P.U. Campus.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor initiated the drive in the presence of Prof. S.K. Tomar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Stu-dent Welfare (Women), Prof. Ashwani Koul, Chief of University Security, Narinder Kumar, Lakhwinder Singh, Prof. Yojna Rawat, Prof. Ganga Ram and some other eminent faculty members.

Around 100 trees of pilkhan, peepal, barghad, Neem, Kaner were planted at the occasion. The space will be developed into ‘Triveni Garden’.

The PU VC appreciated the efforts of the Horti-culture Division and a team of Prof. Yojna Rawat, Prof. Harish Kumar and Prof. Kamaljit Singh has been constituted to identify the places and suitable species to be planted in the campus. He further desired that residents from nearby areas be associated with plantations .

Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (H), said the division will plant trees in this monsoon season to make the campus greener and more beautiful.

Tree Plantation by Traders of Sector 17 Members of the Chandigarh Traders Associa-tion, Sector 17 Chandigarh, assembled near Hotel Taj under the Presidentship of Kamaljit Singh Panchhi for a Tree Plantation Drive on the occa-sion of Van Mohotsav-2020.

This is a noble cause which will flourish in the monsoon season and will also help in tackling the the problem of Global Warming, said Panchhi.

Prominent among who were present were L.C Arora, RakeshJain, PK Grover, Narinder Jain, Gurmeet Singh, Anil Sharma, Jodh Singh,Deepak Kumar, Naresh Bansal, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Kumar and other members of the Association.
